‘NO-SHOW’ LEADERS ANGER ELDERS
By JACKSON MAPAPAYI NORTH Western Development Council of Elders (NWDCE) has expressed worry over “missing” members of Parliament, councillors and council chairpersons after the 2016 general elections
NWDCE chairperson Lucas Chikoti told the Daily Nation in an interview that it is now one year since the leaders were put into offices but not a single campaign promise has been fulfilled.
Mr Chikoti said though all MPs, including councillors were from the opposition, they were capable of delivering on their campaign promises provided they worked hard by engaging relevant government offices.
“We have not forgotten the time of elections when they were passing through assuring us that they will bring development in their various constituencies,” he said.
He said the expectations of the people were still high hence the need for MPs to up their game.
“But unfortunately, those promises are not coming forth,” Mr Chikoti said.
He said the MPs should not blame the people if they decided not to vote for them in 2021.
“They have at least four years for them to change the situation, otherwise they will have themselves to blame,” Mr Chikoti said. He said MPs in other provinces were delivering on their campaign promises by taking development to their various constituencies.
“So, being in opposition should not be an excuse for our MPs because their colleagues are able to deliver even when they are in the same shoes,” said Mr Chikoti.
