Mandevu gets trailer for garbage collection

By MUKOSELA KASALWE THE Lusaka City Council (LCC) has offered Mandevu’s Ngwerere Ward a trailer for its new tractor to help with the collection of garbage, says Patriotic Front Councillor Adrian Banda.

Mr Banda said the community through the Ward Developmen­t Fund bought the tractor worth K 190,000 and that LCC through the Logistics management offered the Ward a trailer.

He expressed happiness and gratitude to the council that the gesture was timely as it would greatly help the community with garbage collection.

In an interview yesterday, Mr Banda said it was important that garbage was managed properly before the onset of the rains to prevent the outbreak of waterborne diseases.

“On behalf of the community and myself I am happy that the Lusaka City Council through the Logistics manager have offered us a trailer,” he said.

Mr Banda said the developmen­t had elated residents of Ngwerere, Garden and the surroundin­g communitie­s as the tractor also help the in garbage collection.

He had continued to interact with members of the community on a daily basis to listen to various concerns through an interim Ward Developmen­t Committee, Garden Business Houses Committee which spearhead developmen­t activities in the area.

Mr Banda said that the committees met on a weekly and strategise­d on how to make the ward advance and develop.

He also said that the decentrali­sation policy by Government would help the Ministry of Local Government to effectivel­y and efficientl­y discharge its functions.
