- By CHITE MTONGA

CARGILL Zambia has sold all its properties and business operations in Chipata to Parrogate Ginneries Limited.

Cargill Regional Agricultural lead, Brendon De Boer said that the company had sold its cotton ginnery, maize mill as well as buildings and equipment associated with Cargill’s operations in the district to Parrogate Ginnery Limited.

In a statement made available to the Daily Nation, Mr. De Boer said that Cargill had found a reliable and trusted company (Parrogate Ginnery) that would secure the future of cotton and maize operations in the region

“Parrogate Ginnery has extensive experience with cotton origination and ginning operations in Zambia, Zimbabwe and Malawi as well as considerable networks in the region which I have no doubt will allow it to successfully continue operations in Chipata and we believe all is in good hands,” he said.

Mr. De Boer said that once the transaction was complete, Parrogate Ginnery would run the cotton ginnery and maize mill as a viable business operation which will provide cotton seed to farmers as well as buy cotton from the local communities.

He however mentioned that Cargill’s other businesses in the country were not impacted by the transaction and the company will continue to buy and trade agricultural commodities normally.
