According to the warrant of commitment to undergo sentence of imprisonment signed by Kabwe Magistrate Fidelis Ngosa and addressed to the officer-in-charge at Mukobeko, Ruth Mwape must be lodged in the said prison.

Mwape of house number 41, Nakoli compound, Kabwe, pleaded guilty to one count of theft, contrary to section 272 of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

Particulars of the offence were that on August 25, 2017 Mwape stole four by 400 mls of men’s lotion, 12 by 200 mls of Johnson’s lotion and one tablet of bathing soap, all valued at K892.29, from Shoprite outlet at the newly opened Kabwe Mall.

According to facts, on August 24, 2017, one Thelma Kazembe, a Shoprite Checkers employee, received a phone call from a security guard at the mall that Mwape was caught stealing some items from the store and had already been apprehended by the security personnel. Ms. Kazembe then rushed to the mall and found Mwape with the items she was caught stealing. “The accused person was then conveyed to Lukanga police post where all the items stated in the indictment where valued at K892.29. Acting on the report, the police opened a docket and cautioned the accused person. She was then interviewed in connection with the alleged offence and was arrested.

Meanwhile, the State has asked the Lusaka Magistrate Court to find Prophet Angel Sakala with a case to answer for obtaining money by false pretences on grounds that there was sufficient evidence warranting him to be put on his defence.

This was after arresting officer Detective Sergeant Peter Musa testified against Sakala, who obtained K10, 170 from Beatrice Kasonde, a widow, on the pretext that he was going to reveal to her the whereabouts of her dead husband.
