Nkeyema police hunt for defiler

-

POLICE in Nkeyema district in Western Province are looking for a peasant farmer of Sipalo area following a case of incest and defilement.

Both police sources and the local YWCA office in Nkeyema confirmed that a peasant farmer of Sipalo area in the district whose age and whereabouts is unknown after defiling his 13-year-old biological daughter.

YWCA district project coordinator Sitali Indopu said that the adolescent was allegedly impregnated by her father, whose identity has been withheld to protect the victim, following repeated incidences of defilement.

Ms. Indopu said that the girl’s father told the victim that she would go mad or he would kill her should she tell anyone about their sexual encounters and that her father allegedly threatened that she would be arrested together with him should she disclose the affair.

The girl has a two-monthold baby boy arising from the incestuous affair.

Ms. Indopu alleged that the girl’s mother was a conspirator in this matter as it appeared that she was aware of the sexual abuse which her daughter was enduring at the hands of her father, yet she did not do anything to protect the child.

She said that the YWCA is concerned that the girlchild has continued to be vulnerable despite the massive sensitisation programmes that many organisations have put in place and called for stiffer punishment for the perpetrators of vices such as incest and defilement.

Ms. Indopu said that the YWCA has noted with concern that morals are being eroded in society and her organisation would continue to emphasise community sensitisation and engage traditional leaders as well.
