CB youth chief exposes scam

- By BENNIE MUNDANDO

A SCAM in which some youths on the Copperbelt are fleecing unsuspecting people using the name of President Edgar Lungu by engaging in illegal activities has been unearthed and the PF leadership has vowed to bring the culprits to book.

Copperbelt youth chairman Nathan Chanda told the Daily Nation yesterday that there were disgruntled elements on the Copperbelt who were engaged in activities not prescribed by the party and were using his name and that of the President to fleece unsuspecting victims.

Mr. Chanda said the PF will not condone people who were bringing the name of the party in disrepute by engaging in unacceptable behaviour while using its name and the president to engage in activities that bordered on personal benefits.

He said the party will not hesitate to crack the whip on those who were involved in sinister activities because their deeds were tarnishing the image of the party and that of the president.

Mr. Chanda said he was aware that there were some people who were using PF printed T-shirts and masquerading as party officials and were involved in a lot of bad activities but warned that the law will soon catch up with them.

"We are alive to the fact that there are people who are using the name of the party and the president in bad faith and with bad motives to benefit themselves and this is bringing the name of the party and the president into ridicule. Some people are using PF printed Tshirts to elude punishment for traffic offences by hiding in the name of the ruling party but that is not what we stand for as a party.

“There are some people who are soliciting for financial assistance using my name and the name of the President but this too is a serious offence to which we will not hesitate to crack the whip when we catch up with such individuals. Soon, the law will visit such people,” Mr. Chanda warned.

He cited Ndola as one of places in which such sinister activities were rampant as some people were working under the disguise of being PF members to engage in activities of personal benefits yet they did not have the blessing of the party leadership and the President.

He said there was a group of youths in Ndola that was moving up and involved in all manner of sinister activities and appealed to the residents and youths from the party to be on the look-out to cage such disgruntled individuals.
