NAREP hails TCZ for exposing ‘teachers’
By MUKOSELA KASALWE
NAREP salutes the Teaching Council of Zambia for exposing teachers with fake qualifications and it will serve as a lesson to would-be offenders, says Central Province chairperson Belington Mulenga.
Mr Mulenga said as a concerned stakeholder and a party offering checks and balances it commended the Teaching Council of Zambia (TCZ) for exposing teachers with fake qualifications.
Mr Mulenga said it was unfortunate that teachers who were supposed to be role models and held in high esteem by society could engage in such a shameful act.
In an interview yesterday, Mr Mulenga said the exposé called for the screening of all public and private institutions and that Zambians had been subjected to poor service delivery because people employed did not qualify for the jobs.
“As NAREP we want to salute the Teaching Council of Zambia for exposing the dust that has been swept under the carpet for too long. We feel cheated and robbed by these teachers who did not qualify for these jobs, when teachers should be role models and held in high esteem can be involved in this shameful act,” Mr Mulenga said.
He said citizens deserved better services and urged the government to put appropriate measures to stop such criminality where Zambian coffers could be robbed in broad daylight.
Mr Mulenga said erring teachers should be expelled and employ new ones with qualifications and serve as a lesson to would-be offenders.
He said politicians such as some Members of Parliament and councillors were not an exception in acquiring fake qualifications because of corruption and called for sanity.
Mr Mulenga said this should be a turning point for the Ministry of General Education to get rid of criminal elements in the system.
And the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA) applauded ZTC for exposing teachers with fake qualifications.
ZAQA director and chief executive director Mirriam Chiyaba said this followed an extensive exercise that included them to determine the authenticity of qualifications held by teachers.
