Trade union leaders are pathetic

-

Editor,

THE way the law is being framed nowadays leaves much to be desired. For instance, slapping a 7-year jail sentence for disciplining my child is uncalled for! They called it “child battering...”

Listening to a police officer on radio this morning made me wonder if the legal fraternity has not been possessed by extra-terrestrial beings. Where can you even find space to load offenders for such a long period of time? Because even three months, for a father that wants the best for his child, would be too long a time to spend in jail - and as far as I’m concerned 6 hours for me would be forever under the circumstances. Surprisingly, I again hear on the radio from some northern country banning use of plastic carrier bags: a week later, Zambia also mounts a campaign against the same as if they originated the idea. The call is OK but the timing is bad! People have invested huge sums of money to procure bag manufacturing plants and to have to shut them down would not be economical. .And as far as moderate punishment is concerned, I’m for the idea. I would want my child disciplined.
