Thugs worry Kamwala residents

-

By KALOBWE BWALYA SUSPECTD street adults in Kamwala residential area near Total filling station in Lusaka are attacking people especially in the night.

In an interview with the Daily Nation, Salim Ibrahim of Madras said, the area was no longer safe because some street vendors, including adults, have invaded the trading area, and were stealing from the shoppers.

Mr Ibrahim said the street adults were attacking people especially those who moved in the night as well as stealing things from them.

He said the business sector was now living in fear especially that they leave the shops at awkward hours, and have since called on the police to intensify night patrols.

Another concerned person, Mr Lazarus Masuwa cautioned commuters not to be dropping off at Total Filling station after 22:00 hours because the attackers often hid in the drainage.

Mr Masuwa said a few weeks ago, a gang of street adults carrying machetes and other sharp instruments attacked him just after he dropped off at Total bus station heading home around 22:00 hours.

“A group of thugs came running towards me immediately after I dropped from the vehicle but after recognising me, they soon left, and they had machetes, others with stones and sticks,” said Mr Masuwa.

And the community has appealed to the Zambi Police Service to intensify night patrols because the area had been invaded by thieves who were stealing even during daylight.

They have since threatened to take the law in their own hands if the situation continued because they were no longer felt safe because women were also being attacked.
