Lusaka City Council ‘double dealing’ irks PF official

-

PF Lusaka district secretary, Simon Mapulanga charged that the council had failed to resolve a wrangle over his piece of land he bought in 2006 which has been encroached by a private company.

Mr. Mapulanga, 44, of plot number 183/39, Matero east, explained that a private company has encroached on his land taking away 11x 4 meters where a structure was being erected. He claimed that his efforts to have the issue resolved had fallen on deaf ears as the council seemed not to care about the development.

The PF Lusaka district secretary who was recently picked up by Matero police and beaten stated that he had reported what he termed ‘double dealing’ by Lusaka City Council to relevant authorities such as the Ministry of Local Government and the Lusaka Mayor but that nothing has been done.

“They (encroachers) have even closed both Kebby Musokotwane road which has been in existence for over 20 years and Matero north roads. At the far end, they have encroached on my land with impunity taking 11 by 4 meters.

“I have tried to seek help from the Ministry of Local Government and written to the Mayor over double dealing by Lusaka City Council but nothing has been done.

“The council keeps on telling me to see them the following week. They seem not to care and this is a plot that I have occupied for over 10 years ,” Mr Mapulanga complained.

A check by the Daily Nation at the land in question found the two roads closed and construction work going on at the site that is fenced with iron sheets.

And efforts to get a comment from the Mayor proved futile as his phone was constantly off.
