Kitwe DC slams dishonest teachers

- By JOSSY CHAIMA

Mr Mpundu IT is disappointing to know that there is a large number of teachers stealing salaries from the government by falsifying results of their pupils, says Kitwe District Commissioner Binwell Mpundu.

Mr Mpundu said teachers were supposed to be role models to their pupils, and falsifying results was not a good example.

Speaking in an interview yesterday Mr Mpundu said falsifying results was a crime. He said it was sad that people who were supposed to impact knowledge in pupils were the ones indulging in criminal activities.

“It is sad that we have a large number of teachers drawing huge salaries and stealing money from the government through falsifying their results which is a crime because when you falsify something you are a criminal, we have a lot of criminals teaching our children; what kind of a system and future are we going to have,” he asked.

Mr Mpundu said Government has been trying to find out why the there was a high incidence of poor examination results in schools especially on the Copperbelt. He said the situation was unfortunate and would push the government to search the entire teaching fraternity to ensure that only the right and trained teachers stayed in employment.

Mr Mpundu wondered what kind of future Zambia would have if criminals have to be teaching the future generation.

“We have been questioning why we are having poor results particularly on the Copperbelt. I just hope the numbers that have been mentioned are not from the Copperbelt. I surely hope we do not have any teachers from Kitwe with forged certificates,” Mr Mpundu said.
