CITY FIGHT RELEGATION BATTLE
By MICHAEL MIYOBA CITY of Lusaka FC head coach Roberto Landi says his team will not be demoted from the MTN/ FAZ Super division this season.
City has been struggling in the Super division having won only two games from the 26 so far played.
Speaking in an interview with Daily Nation Sports in Lusaka Landi said City has improved since he took over as third coach of the season after the club fired Elijah Chikwanda and Hector Chilombo in a space of six months.
“I think when I arrived the performance was very poor. In three weeks we dismissed 14 players and brought in new players, one playing in the Kenya National team and the other one from Congo,
“Now we wait for the International Transfer Certificates for the two players from Congo and Kenya who will be able to provide the striking power that City has been lacking,” he said
He said looking at City’s performance against Green Buffaloes and Nkana in the last two league fixture, he was confident about the future of the team.
“The team played good football but were unable to score goals. But from Saturday we will have power upfront,
“It been a month since I have been here, I haven’t acclimatized myself with the players but I believe if we win the next six matches, we will be able to save the team from being relegated. Yes we are bottom on the league table but the difference isn’t that big in terms of points accumulated by teams in the relegation zone,” he said
And City Chairman Justine Zulu said the club was going through a transition period and will soon start reaping results in the MTN/FAZ Super division.
Zulu said that everything was not lost at City of Lusaka, noting that there were more games to be played before the league came to an end.
“Football is about preparing in advance and as an executive we are doing everything possible to ensure that the club survives. We are working hand in hand with coaches and the players to ensure that we survive,” Zulu said.
