ZESCO gets K1.4m to re-route cables
THE Road Development Agency (RDA) has given ZESCO K1.4 million for rerouting power cables and other installations along the great north road to pave way for the newly launched LusakaNdola dual carriageway, it has been learnt.
ZESCO spokesperson Henry Kapata said the power utility company had been requested to reroute its installations along a stretch between Heroes Stadium and Kabangwe Township in Lusaka.
Mr Kapata said ZESCO had in the past days been roundly condemned for delaying expansion works on the Great North Road because of installations along the high way.
Mr Kapata however explained that rerouting cables and installations of that nature was an expensive undertaking, which needed thorough preparation and resources to execute.
He pointed out that some of the installations needed to be replaced with new ones, among the many other requirements.
Mr Kapata disclosed that RDA had given the electricity company K1.4 million to move the installations and cables away from the road.
“You know there was so much talk that ZESCO is delaying the expansion works on the road between Heroes Stadium and Kabangwe. But RDA has now given us K1.4 million reroute our cables and installations along that stretch to pave way for the project,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mr Kapata said that the fibre network had reached all provinces with a coverage of about 8,000 km of fibre.
He pointed out that recent connections included Mwinilunga, Kalumbila, Mufumbwe, Kasempa, Kabompo, Mumbezi, Zambezi, Kasempa, Chavuma and Lukulu in North Western Province.
Mr Kapata also said connections had been completed in Shiwang’andu, Kasaba Bay and Nkamba Bay.
He said that the power utility company currently had another project for Metropolitan networks going on for Lusaka and Copperbelt towns.
Mr Kapata assured that all the areas that had been installed with fibre network should expect unprecedented development and more investors.
