Bishop counsels Zambians on period of prayer
By SANDRA MACHIMA YOU can never be in authority without seeking God’s guidance, and therefore Zambians must use this period of prayer and fasting to reflect on the fact that Zambia is a Christian nation, Church of God Cathedral of Miracles senior pastor Bishop Naison Nyonyo has said.
Bishop Nyonyo said the declared prayer and fasting day by the National House of Prayers should be taken seriously and as matter of showing love and unity.
He said it was unfortunate that some politicians wanted to take the Zambian peace for granted at the expense of uniting the nation, noting that no one who meant well for the nation could downplay the sanctity of prayer as a means by which everyone communicated and connected to God.
Bishop Nyonyo said that it was the fear of God that made anyone a good leader, saying it was vital for everyone to reflect and ensure they observed the prayer and fasting period that was aimed at promoting peace and reconciliation.
The clergyman has since appealed to all political parties to dialogue genuinely and put to rest any outstanding national issues and put the interest of Zambia as a priority.
He said there was need to use prayer opportunities to cast away devilish deeds from people with ill-intentions aimed at harming innocent citizens.
Bishop Nyonyo said it could not be argued that Zambia was a Christian nation and that its people should be guided by Christianity principles of promoting peace, love and unity.
He noted that the state of affairs in the country was only worsened by some few individuals who wanted to dent the image of the country by trying to ignore the root cause of the problems and decisively dealing with them.
“There is no enemity when it comes to seeking God and I want to advise politicians that they should not show their greediness and arrogance in the wake of this period as such will draw them away from what they want,” Bishop Nyonyo said.
