Kapwepwe Ward bans roadshows during school days

-

By MUKOSELA KASALWE MY office has communicated to the town clerk not to give permits for roadshows in Matero’s Kapwepwe Ward 25 during school days as most pupils opt to miss class, says Patriotic Front councillor Patrick Salubusa.

Mr Salubusa said he was concerned that the entertainment through music and dancing during roadshows had become a public nuisance which forced many children to miss lessons as they forgot about school time.

He said as an artist and a public relations consultant, he understood the importance of the road shows as they created employment for artists apart from being used as vehicles for sales promotions but they could not be allowed to disturb the academic preparations of school children.

In an interview with Daily Nation, at the weekend, Mr Salubusa said companies who promoted products such as biscuits and sweets in Kapwepwe Ward through roadshows should realise that their target audience comprised of schoolgoing children.

Mr Salubusa said it did not augur well to stage roadshows during school days as by that time their customers (pupils) were supposed to be in classes and that it was appropriate to conduct the shows when schools were on recess during weekends.

“My office has already communicated to the Lusaka town clerk that Kapwepwe Ward is a no-go area for roadshows during school days as we want to put value on education,” said Mr Salubusa.

Mr Salubusa said he wanted a community of literate people and that this would only be achieved if school children were left alone to focus on their studies.
