WE ARE TIRED OF KCM DRAMA

-

Dear Editor,

I THINK people of Chingola and Zambians in general are tired of Konkola Copper Mines (KCM)’s never ending drama.

The issue of KCM’s ills has been on Zambians’ lips for umpteenth time with no solution so far.

Successive Governments have been in talks; we are told with KCM to improve its operational exploits in Zambia just like the rest of the other mines to no tangible results.

One really wonders why KCM has been so stubborn in addressing the many challenges and shortcomings put across to it by all the stakeholders, Government and employees inclusive.

Is there something that the Zambian people don’t know that only successive Governments come to know when they ascend to power that make this mine behave like a small god in our own nation?

Where are the technocrats who signed for the sale of this mine to Vedanta to give the country the silent information that make this mine behave in such a manner with impunity always?

Who messed up the sale agreement of this mine to warrant its stubbornness to even the government of the day?

We have other mines like FQM’s Kansanshi, Trident, Kalumbila and, Lumwana Mines, to mention but a few, who have never tormented successive Governments the way KCM has been doing with impunity and unbelievable stubbornness.

I seriously smell a rat somewhere in the sale agreement and I feel it is high time our own Zambian technocrats who were involved in the sale procedure, agreement or/and contract to be brought to book to account for the mess.

We are seriously tired of the unending drama at this mine as if it was the only mine in Zambia.

Moreover, that is our copper, for God’s sake.

Every Government in waiting talks highly of cleaning the mess at KCM once voted into power but one wonders why they seem to all develop cold feet immediately they form Government.

What is in the sale agreement that make every successive Government vulnerable to KCM immediately they ascend to power?

WISDOM MUYUNDA, Chingola.
