MMD HAILS BUDGET

- By ANNIE ZULU

THE 2018 national budget is an assurance of a brighter future for Zambia,” Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) national secretary Raphael Nakacinda has said.

Mr Nakacinda said the budget gives hope to the Zambian people of better things to come.

“From the different sectors that have been given more finances, we seem to be getting a feeling that the presentation of the budget will have a bit of surplus.

“Moving forward we are very optimistic that we will be able to achieve greater strides, so this gives hope to the Zambian people of a greater future,” Mr Nakacinda said.

However, expelled PF Roan Member of Parliament Chishimba Kambwili has stated that the increase in taxes by the Edgar Lungu government was an insult to the Zambian people.

Mr Kambwili has accused the PF government of failing to fulfil its promises to the Zambian people of lower taxes and more money in their pockets.

He claimed that PF had diverted from its mandate and decided to go the former ruling MMD way.

“The PF government had promised the people of Zambia lower taxes and more money in their pocket, then the Minister of Finance comes and increases tax on almost everything.

“PF is no longer PF, it’s now MMD reloaded, more taxes to the people, I am extremely disappointed that we have moved away from what we stood for as PF, and just going the Rupiah Banda way,” said Mr Kambwili.
