Tribal politics irk Chief Chiyengele
By SANDRA MACHIMA TRIBAL politics has become a hindrance to development and if unchecked may deny people access to real development, Chief Chiyengele of the Mbunda people of Mongu has spoken.
Chief Chiyengele has since urged fellow chiefs to refrain from attaching themselves to politics because it was an affront to national unity.
Chief Chiyengele said it was important that traditional leadership played a role that ensured their subjects benefitted from the national cake.
He said it was wrong for any traditional leaders to align themselves and appeared to be active in politics, when they were supposed to stand for the truth and respect their thrones.
He told the Daily Nation in Mongu that his chiefdom would support the government of the day, noting that President Edgar Lungu deserved support from all well-meaning Zambians because he had proved that he was a leader for all.
The traditional leader said tribal politics should not be tolerated, adding the Zambian Presidency must be respected and that no one should be tolerated for disrespecting the hierarchy.
“I will make sure that my Chiefdom gives support to what is due because President Lungu is doing great works for all the Zambians and he deserves support from all who mean well," he said
Chief Chiyengele advised the young people not to be cheated by some politicians who claimed would change Zambia and yet had failed to do so now.
“Sadly, what we seeing now is such disgruntled politicians using young people for nothing. l will not condone this in my chiefdom because they are hindering tangible development," he said.
