It’s political, cries Siavonga DC

SIAVONGA District Commissioner Lovemore Kanyama has accused the UPND of trying to bring him down politically.

Reacting to a Daily Nation story in which it was reported that he fought over food with UPND Siavonga District Council chairman James Simataa at the Lwiindi ceremony in Siavonga, Mr Kanyama said UPND was trying by all means to destroy him politically.

Mr Kanyama said during the Lwiindi ceremony he was busy attending to the accident involving a Police vehicle which over turned on the Bottom Road injuring several people, including officers.

“In fact, I missed the ceremony because the very day the police vehicle was involved in a road accident I spent most of my time attending to those who were injured at Mtendere Mission Hospital in Chirundu,” said Mr Kanyama.

Mr Kanyama claimed that he never attended the ceremony and wondered how he was being linked to the food fight incident.

“At the ceremony, I merely went there to brief the guest, Hon Lawrence Sichalwe the condition of the victims who he later visited,“In fact it was a headman who was stopping people from getting food so that His Royal Highness Chief Sinadambwe and the guest of honour, Mr Sichalwe could get the food first,” said Mr Kanyama.

He said Chief Sinadambwe will soon issue a statement on the matter to clear the air.

"His Royal Highness Chief Sinadambwe is yet to issue a statement on this same matter. All this is coming from UPND top leadership with the aim to politicising my office and make me look bad in the eyes of the people," claimed Kanyama.

He said UPND and its councillors should stop politicising government funded projects in the district.

“They are trying to gain political support from people. It’s not about food, it’s sad that I wasn't given chance to explain my side of the story. UPND has failed to control or rather to silence me and they will do whatever comes across them to bring my name down,

“I challenge the media to follow up the story and get facts from ceremony organisers in Chief Sinadambwe. I will not lose my focus on such baseless issues. The UPND has to accept that President Edgar Lungu is the president of the republic of Zambia, scandalising my name will not help them ascend to power,” Mr Kanyama said.
