Barlastone residents want main road repaired
By NATION REPORTER RESIDENTS of former government farms in Barlastone have appealed to Matero Member of Parliament Lloyd Kaziya and Mwembeshi Ward Councillor Kelvin Kaunda to help upgrade the main road providing access to the area.
The residents talked to said they had confidence in the two leaders’ ability and capacity to deliver development according to people’s needs and expectations.
“We have already started putting our own efforts to upgrade this road using the rubble being removed from Great North Road by Avic International Limited. So we only need transport to ferry the material to this place and something to give hardworking young men who are helping us do the work,
“We are working with members of the newly formed area development committee to spearhead this project before the onset of the rainy season.
“This road becomes completely impassable when it rains and both motorists and pedestrians find it very difficult to use it,” said Mr James Mumba, a resident of the area.
Another resident Mr Paul Chalwe said it was good that the community had teamed up and formed an area development committee, which now only needed support from the MP, the Councillor, the business community; and other stakeholders concerned about development.
“The only thing we need is transport to bring the debris here. We have made our own efforts to get small contributions from the community but unfortunately some people are not willing to contribute even a K50.
“We are not asking for huge amounts but something to use on logistics on our young men who are helping us… These young men are not asking for too much or salaries. They just need water and other logistics while working for the community. This is the only opportunity we have to address this problem before the onset of the rainy season,” he said
