Referee robbed us
By MICHAEL MIYOBA THOUSANDS of Lusaka soccer fans who were looking forward to seeing the Chipolopolo boys make their maiden appearance at a world cup tournament have condemned Botswana’s referee Joshua Bondo for poor officiating in Zambia’s 1-0 defeat to Nigeria.
Some soccer fans talked to by Daily Nation Sports said Bondo robbed the Chipolopolo boys when he ruled out Augustin Mulenga’s 22nd minute goal after the Zanaco talisman was adjudged to be been off-side before netting the disallowed goal.
One of the fans, Philip Soko, said Mulenga’s goal should have counted as it was a clear goal. Soko observed that Mulenga was not off side before being set up by Chisamba Lungu with his sublime pass which beat the Nigerian defense.
He said the boys played well away from home and were unfortunate to have lost the game after having had a lion’s share of ball possession.
“The boys played good foot. It’s unfortunate that we missed a number of chances especially in the first half but that referee from Botswana did not help us as well. He robbed us a clear goal by Mulenga. We deserved to win that game,” Soko said.
