POLICE STATE OF THE ART KIT COMING, SAYS PRESIDENT LUNGU
By OSCAR MALIPENGA PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu says his government is mobilising state of the art equipment for the police to effectively carry out their duties.
President Lungu said the Patriotic Front (PF) government on its part had embarked on a robust housing project for improving the welfare of not only police officers but all the security wings.
The President said this in a speech read by Home Affairs Minister Stephen Kampyongo during a fundraising dinner towards the construction of a modern police station in Kanyama Constituency at Sandy's Creation on Friday.
“I wish to thank the business community for your gesture in supporting community work. Your action is not just an act of responsibility, but an act required of any responsible citizen.
"Promoting and preserving public security is a shared responsibility for all citizens. When communities are safe, businesses are safe as well," Mr Lungu said.
President Lungu said policing should be seen in the context of community participation, adding that when citizens themselves were involved it would be easier for the police to execute their mandate.
President Lungu thanked Kanyama member of Parliament Elizabeth Phiri for such an initiative and urged the business sector to do more to improve the welfare of the community.
Meanwhile, Mr Kampyongo pledged K80, 000 on behalf of State House towards the construction of the modern police station in Kanyama. Ms Phiri thanked President Lungu, Mr Kampyongo and the business sector of helping her to raise resources to build a police station.
Mrs Phiri said once completed, Kanyama police station would the same services as those of Lusaka Central police station.
