Guard drags boss to police

- By CHARLES MUSONDA

I WAS almost killed by a mob when Pilatus Engineering proprietor Josep Huwiler’s wife Charlotte Mukumbuta accused me of having stolen spare parts from the company, a security guard has lamented.

Christopher Mukafwempa told the Daily Nation yesterday that Ms. Mukumbuta’s allegation attracted an angry mob that descended on him soon after he knocked off from work.

He said the incident happened on Friday around 18:00 hours in Lusaka’s Mtendere compound.

He said Ms. Mukumbuta was with some plain clothed police officers in her car and trailed the Pilatus Engineering staff bus up to Mtendere market where he disembarked.

“As I was coming out of the bus she shouted ‘thief, ‘thief’ and called on people to apprehend me. That was when the mob descended on me and the plain clothed police officers joined in and apprehended me.

“In the process I lost my phone and my salary which I had just gotten that same day. She accused me of having stolen spare parts but she did not have any evidence to justify her allegations,” Mr. Mukafwempa narrated.

He said the incident incensed his workmates who later turned against the police officers who were with Ms. Mukumbuta.

He said the issue started from Pilatus Engineering premises on Leopards Hill road where the officers sealed off the main gate and Ms. Mukumbuta refused to resolve the matter with management.

He said this forced the staff bus driver to use another exit. Mr. Mukafwempa was yesterday found at Mtendere police post reporting the matter.

He said it was sad that Ms. Mukumbuta had allegedly started victimising innocent employees following her marital disputes with Mr. Huwiler, who has since relocated from his own home at Pilatus premises, following a court ruling.

He said Ms. Mukumbuta was targeting employees who she thought were close to Mr. Huwiler.
