UPND WARD OFFICIALS DUMP PARTY FOR PF
By JACKSON MAPAPAYI THE entire United Party for National Development (UPND) Jimbe ward executive committee in Ikelenge district has defected to the ruling Patriotic Front (PF).
Leading the defectors, executive committee chairman Charles Kiliyo said they had decided to defect because the opposition party had no future.
“The entire executive committee members and I have today decided to defect and join the ruling party because we have realised that the opposition party has nothing to offer, Mr Kiliyo said.
He said he could not continue being a member of the opposition party but wanted to join a progressive party and contribute to the development of the area. He said Ikelenge district had lagged behind in terms of development because of voting for the opposition.
He urged other members of the opposition in the district to emulate him by joining the ruling party.
“The earlier people realise the better, otherwise, there is nothing the opposition can offer,” he said.
And receiving the defectors, North Western province PF chairperson Emmanuel Chihili said he was happy that people had started realising that the opposition UPND had nothing to offer and was not going anywhere.
He said people should not be deceived that the opposition could bring development in the province. “From the time you started voting for them, what development they have brought, nothing. So am happy that people have started realising that,” he said.
He urged others to join the ruling party so that they could not be left behind.
