Chumbwe commissions borehole in palabana

THE first of the 12 new boreholes in Chongwe district sank through the Basket Fund with support of kredifanstalt Fur Wiederaufbau (KFW) of Germany has been commissioned by the Mayor in Chongwe.
Mayor, Mr. Geoffrey Chumbwe was happy to handover the water facility to the people of Kilimanjoro-Pada in Palabana ward. The borehole is a project under the council's Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Program.
The Mayor handed over the borehole amidst ululations of joy from the residents who were happy to be blessed with the safe and clean water source.
The Mayor thanked the people for their patience and promised to continue delivering on the mandate which they gave the Patriotic Front government.
He urged them to treasure the borehole and protect it with a great sense of ownership.
The area councillor, Mr. David Chilufya also, " This borehole has come at the right time when 5 boreholes in the area were down and we were facing serious water problems. This will help alleviate the sufferings of the poeple and prevent water borne diseases like cholera which thrives on unclean water. "
He told the Daily Nation that, he wished the Mayor well and urged him to continue lobbying more developmental projects for the area.
"We are thankful to the council for considering us as recipients of the 12 boreholes that have been drilled across the district. We have 19 wards and to be considered is a great honor," he observed.
"Clean and safe drinking water was a necessity and Without clean and safe water, diseases such as cholera cannot be fought effectively" he said.
