Formation of HIV body commended

- BY PETER MALASHA

Luano District Council Chairperson Reverend Gabriel Mwami has welcomed Zambia Network of People living with HIV (NZP+) Mkushi chapter to form support groups in the area.

Reverend Mwami told the Daily Nation that the door was wide open for Mkushi NZP chapter to penetrate and form support groups in the district.

Rev. Mwami noted that, formation of NZP support groups would go a long way in reducing the impact of HIV and AIDS in communities.

Rev. Mwami said Luano Dis- trict was not exceptional to the HIV pandemic and so the need for Mkushi NZP+ chapter to get established in various places of the district and roll out their HIV activities.

“As a District Council, we welcome the idea by Zambia Network of People living with HIV (NZP+) Mkushi chapter to come forward and implement their activities. We know the move will reduce re-infections and new infections of HIV.” Rev. Mwami stressed.

Rev. Mwami also urged NZP+) Mkushi chapter to seek audience with the Luano administration so as to chat the way forward over the development.

Reverend Mwami’s comment came in the wake of Zambia Network of People living with HIV (NZP) Mkushi District Coordinator Ben Lupashi who appealed to the Luano District administration to help formation of support groups in the area due to lack of transport and other resources to realise the 2018 action plan.

In his appeal Mr.Lupashi pointed out Masansa and Coppermine areas as HIV hot spots that would aggravate the situation if HIV reduction programmes were not implemented in Luano District.
