Chakwela makumbi commitee applauds government support

WE take special cognisance of Government support during the Chakwela Makumbi traditional ceremony, committee chairperson, Senior Headman Maoma has said.

"The ceremony was a success and government gave us full support. This is a sure sign that government values culture as a unifying and important factor in development," he said.

Senior Headman Maoma told the Daily Nation that such a platform gives the traditional hierarchy a platform to interact with the government in its non political role.

"We are grateful for the high powered government delegation which included, the Minister of Defence, Mr. Davies Chama, Minister of Chiefs and Traditional Affairs, Mr Lawrence Sichalwe, Lusaka Province Minister, Hon. Japhen Mwakalombe, Chongwe council Mayor, Geoffrey Chumbwe and others," he noted.

Senior Headman Maoma also thanked the chiefdom subjects and visitors who took time to come and support the annual ceremony.

One notable visitors group at the ceremony were the Rwandanese friends resident in Zambia who put up a splendid traditional showpiece much to the delight and amusement of the audience.

"We are just undertaking an evaluation of the ceremony and we can safely say, it was a success and God answered our prayers when we asked for rains in the pre-ceremony mass held at the palace," he happily narrated.
