Mandevu sewer blockages finally tackled

-

By MUKOSELA KASALWE MANDEVU constituency will no longer experience persistent sewer spillages after the Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company (LWSC) finally managed to divert and unblock the main sewer line.

The diverted sewer line from junction area, has now been connected to the Buseko main line to reduce blockages.

Patriotic Front Justin Kabwe Councillor Teddy Mwaba said this measure would effectively minimise spillage of effluent in the area South West of Mandevu.

This area has been dogged by this problem for almost a year particularly, at the junction and the area leading to Mandevu market.

He said a shop built on the sewer line had contributed to the blockages resulting in stream of effluent flowing in the community.

In an interview with the Daily Nation, the civic leader said he had played his part by coordinating with the LWSC to ensure that sanity was restored and implored residents to guard the sewer system jealously.

Mr Mwaba said the sewer system was meant to accommodate human waste but that it ended up receiving unwanted substances such as plastics which blocked the sewer system.

“The area South West of Mandevu has been having persistent sewer spillages throughout the year especially at the junction area through to Mandevu market.

A shop built on the infrastructure where a sewer line blocked contributed to the continued sewer streams experienced in the area. I have played my part, all that remains is to the residents to guard the infrastructure jealously,” he said.

He said it was important for members of the community to stop all forms of vandalism on public infrastructure as it was not easy to lobby for such services.

Mr Mwaba said people always complained when things went wrong but when a correct measure was reciprocated no one commended.

He said the ruling Patriotic Front had performed exceptionally well so far and that the party would continue delivering social amenities to its citizens.
