- By JACKSON MAPAPAYI

TOYOTA Zambia has handed over a 1X2 classroom block at Nyansowe Primary School in Kalumbila.

About K221, 000 was spent towards refurbishment of the block and on buying of 40 desks.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Toyota Zambia Solwezi branch manager Brian Muyunda said his company would continue partnering with government in various line ministries to implement similar programmes in areas such as education, health, and safety to improve the quality of life for the citizens.

‘’And I hope that the refurbishment of this school will impact positively on the lives of the school-going children more especially the less privileged,” he said.

And gracing the event, North Western Province Permanent Secretary Ephraim Mateyo said government was committed to improving the standards of education and guarantee a bright future for all.

He said the commitment by government was evident in the Seventh National Development Plan in which government was focusing on enhancing access to quality and inclusive education for all persons including those with disabilities and special needs.

‘’Therefore, government is grateful for the gesture by Toyota Zambia,” he said.

He said in view of the poor learning infrastructure, government was focused on increasing investment in infrastructure in the education sector through undertaking innovative methods to promote equitable access to quality education and skills training, distance education, research, and vocational training.

He said to improve quality, focus would be on enhancing the development of literacy and numeracy skills in learners especially at primary education level through implementation of the revised curriculum.

And speaking on behalf of the pupils, Marrian Jeseposi said the refurbished block would go a long way in changing the lives of the pupils at the school.
