MP FUMES OVER BUSEKO MARKET GARBAGE

- By KALOBWE BWALYA

MATERO Member of Parliament Lloyd Kaziya has condemned Buseko market traders for indiscriminately dumping garbage by the roadside.

Mr Kaziya said it was the responsibility of every Zambian to avoid indiscriminate dumping of garbage, and not to wait for the councillor or the area MP to collect garbage.

Speaking when he toured part of his constituency on Friday, Mr Kaziya said Buseko market was a designated trading place and therefore people needed to dump garbage responsibly at designated places.

Mr Kaziya said people should change their mindset towards garbage, especially marketeers who were the biggest generators in most trading places.

He advised the traders from the market to identify a place where they could be dumping their waste as opposed to the roadside on Lumumba Road.

“It is an acceptable that some marketers from Buseko have resorted to dumping garbage on the roadside and are expecting a councillor or MP to come and collect garbage being generated by them it is a pity indeed,” said Mr Kaziya.

He added that despite the council engaging private garbage collectors, people were not willing to pay.

Mr Kaziya disclosed that he would soon embark on a Matero cleanup campaign and he would engage markeeters before the onset of the rains.

“I am not happy about this behaviour because it is replica of what is actually happening in the community, people will pick up a spot and start dumping garbage, where is our responsibly as citizens.

“So I will be engaging my colleagues in Buseko market on this issue so that they can be responsible in the way they dump garbage,” he said.
