Chilenje water blues worry residents

- By KALOBWE BWALYA

WATER shortage has continued in some parts of Chilenje and residents are appealing to the Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company (LWSC) to urgently rectify the problem.

In an interview with the Daily Nation, some residents complained that it was regrettable that the water problem had persisted for four days.

Mable Changwe of Chilenje said it was sad that residents were still subjected to water problems despite the cholera outbreak out in some parts of the city.

Ms Changwe said people were fetching water from Woodlands Township and Woodlands stadium.

She said crossing the road to fetch water was a big risk for children especially that some had been hit and killed by speeding drivers.

Another resident Phyllis Mtambo said fetching water was time consuming as residents had to cover long distances in search of the resource.

Ms Mtambo said risk of diarrheal outbreak was high and hoped the LWSC would address the shortage soon.

“Erratic water supply by the water utility company is worrying and it has been ongoing but despite launching many complaints to them nothing has been be done,’ said Ms Mtambo.

Eric Choolwe suggested that LWSC should start supplying water through water bowsers to ease the current situation.

He said chances of getting contaminated water were high because some where collecting water from boreholes.

And Clarence Sichalwe appealed to LWSC to ensure that it delivered the best to its customers.

‘We are afraid that cholera can break out here in Chilenje due to the erratic water supply,” he said.
