Nkana humble Forest Rangers

-

By MICHAEL MIYOBA Twelve times league champions Nkana were a pain in the neck for Forest Rangers after having humiliated the Ndola based MTN/FAZ Super league side to a 3-1 defeat in a week 34 fixture played at Nkana’s “Chilata” Stadium in Kitwe.

The Beston Chambeshi tutored Kalampa approached the week 34 fixture aggressively, forcing Forest Rangers to score an own goal 23 minutes into the first half.

Kalampa maintained their dominance over their visitors with striker Shadreck Musanda scoring Nkana’s second goal of the game after being assisted by Ronald “Sate Sate” Kampamba in the 28th minute of the crucial league fixture at Nkana Stadium.

The boys from Wusakile could not stop scoring as Congolese born Walter Bwalya scored Nkana’s third goal five minute before the half time whistle.

With Nkana having relaxed in the second half, Forest Rangers pulled one back in the 54th minute of the game to make it 3-1.

After the wakeup call by Rangers, “Kalampa” regained control of the match but failed to score their fourth goal as strikers Kampamba, Musonda and Bwalya missed a number of chances which could have seen Chambeshi’s boys regaining their three goal lead.

The 3-1 victory over Rangers however moved Kalampa to 59 points on the log, four points behind the league leaders Zesco United who are scheduled to take on Buildcon in a local derby to be played at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

At Nchanga Stadium in Chingola, Nchanga Rangers increased their chances of surviving relegation after walloping “blunt” Honor Janza’a Red Arrows 2-nil.

Zikuru Adams put Rangers ahead in the first half before completing his brace five minutes before the final whistle to hand Rangers maximum three points. The win pushed Rangers to 15th position on the log with 36 points, three points away from the relegation zone which consist of Mighty Mufulira Wanderers, Konkola Blades, Real Nakonde and Relegated City of Lusaka who will be hosting Power Dynamos next Wednesday.

In other fixtures, 2017 Barclays cup silver medalists NAPSA Stars struggled against relegation bound Real Nakonde who held the Linos Makwaza led NAPSA Stars to a barren draw at the New Nakonde Stadium.

Meanwhile the fixture involving Kabwe Warriors and Lumwana Radiants was pushed to a later date due to the poor state of the Lumwana ground which was flooded after heavy rains in North Western province.
