Chiefs urged to educate Youth on cultural values

- By ANNIE ZULU

CHIEF Chipepo of the Tonga people of Southern Province has urged his fellow chiefs to educate the youth on the cultural values and virtues of the nation.

Chief Chipepo said the development of the youth could best be achieved if the chiefs educate the people on the cultural practices of the nation.

He has, therefore, appealed to chiefs to ensure that they draw the youth closer and teach them to behave like Zambian.

The traditional leader said foreign culture had taken over the youth and was impacting negatively on their character formation which affected the development of the nation.

“The indiscipline in the country is so high that children can go on demonstration against their parents, teachers and elders, forgetting that they are the future leaders of the nation,” he said.

Chief Chipepo said the development of the youth would best be achieved if chiefs educate them on the cultural practices of the nation.

He also talked about the recent spate of indiscipline among the youth and appealed to parents to assist because charity begins at home.

Meanwhile, Chief Chipepo has advised traditional leaders to support and work with the Government of the day.

He said this was the only way to attract the necessary development projects in their areas.
