Work hard – female boxers told

By MICHAEL MIYOBA ZAMBIA Boxing Federation (ZBF) president Kennedy Mubita has urged the women youth boxing team to prepare adequately for the world boxing championsh­ip which will kick off on November 17th in Guhahati, India.

Light flyweight boxer Alice Mbewe and Flyweight, Margret Tembo entered camp yesterday to prepare for the crucial world championsh­ip.

Speaking in an interview with Daily Nation Sports in Lusaka, Mubita said that adequate preparatio­ns by the two female boxers will enable them reap medals at the world boxing championsh­ip.

Mubita urged the coaches selected to train the girls for the crucial world championsh­ips to be focused and ensure that the girls are ready for the crucial championsh­ips which will be used as Olympic qualifiers for young female boxers.

“My message to the girls is for them to work extra hard as they prepare for the world boxing championsh­ips. This is a crucial championsh­ip which will be used as a qualifying championsh­ip for the Olympic youth games.

“Therefore the girls will have to prepare adequately. ZBF has selected a team of competent coaches who, we believe will be able to deliver but our encouragem­ent is for them to stay focused and drill the girls for the them to be able to reap medals at the world championsh­ip,” Mubita said.

ZBF has selected Exodus Boxing Academy coach Ariel Banda and Richard Banda from Mazabuka to mentor the girls ahead of the Boxing championsh­ip which will run from November 17th to November 26th 2017 in Gujarati. Meanwhile Mubita has called on the cooperate world to help the associatio­n raise the funds required for the women youth boxing team to represent Zambia at the world boxing championsh­ip.

“Our appeal goes to the cooperate world. Let them assist us as we prepare the girls for this important tournament. We have written to a number of organizati­ons requesting for assistance. Hope their response will be positive so that the girls can travel to India to represent the nation positively,” Mubita said.
