Stop damaging public property - LCC

- By MUYANI SHINJABALE

LUSAKA residents have been urged to stop vandalising public property in the city because doing so was retrogressive and costly.

In an interview with Daily Nation, Lusaka City Council (LCC) acting public relations, George Sichimba said residents should avoid traffic lights and other street signs in the city.

Mr Sichimba said the installation of street lights, signs and infrastructure came at great costs for the benefit of all residents and visitors to the city.

“It is disappointing to see the damage done to public property in many areas in the city installed by the council to beautify the town and make it appealing to both residents and guests in Lusaka.

“Some motorists hit into street poles and run away instead of taking responsibility for their actions to help and promote the outlook of the city, “he lamented.

Mr Sichimba said the money used to undertake repairs could be used for other developmental works to improve the city and promote the living standards of the people.

He noted that the damage caused by vandalism was not restricted to public property but also extended to properties owned by private bodies such as water pipes, buildings underground construction and many others.

Mr Sichimba therefore, appealed to the residents of Lusaka to stop vandalizing property because it only derails and economic growth.
