... it’s dishonest to hide investment in tax haven

-

By CHITE MTONGA OPPOSITION UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema should on principle not attempt to contest the 2021 presidential election as he has been publicly exposed as unpatriotic citizen who is only interested in enriching himself, Zambian DNA spokesperson Spuki Mulemwa has said.

Mr Mulemwa told the Daily Nation that Mr Hichilema should not attempt to run for the presidency in 2021 because the recent revelations that he had money in offshore accounts allegedly to avoid paying tax was evidence enough that he was dishonest and did not have the interest of the ordinary Zambians.

He said that Mr Hichilema’s actions were confirmation that he did not care about poor Zambians who could have benefited from the tax he deliberately avoided re-

ed from the tax he deliberately avoided remitting to the Zambian government.

“Finally we have known who Mr Hichilema really is, he is dishonest and unpatriotic, we wonder whether he truly cares about the people he wishes to govern, because the tax he is avoiding to pay is money that government uses to build hospitals, schools and other social amenities” Mr Mulemwa said. He said that it was morally incorrect for an individual who aspired for presidency to be engaged in such undignified vices.

Mr Mulemwa said that Mr Hichilema’s failure to declare his assets abroad was a sign that he was dishonest in his dealings and was hiding something.

He said that Mr Hichilema should explain to the Zambian people why he should still remain relevant in Zambian politics even after involving himself in such shameful acts. He further accused some Zambian NGOs of being unprofessional as they were quick to criticize government, yet they remained silent on other issues that affected the majority poor Zambians.
