MANDEVU SLASHES GARBAGE COLLECTION FEES BY 50PC

- By MUKOSELA KASALWE

THE reduced monthly garbage collection fee from K40 to K20 should spur residents of Mandevu Constituency’s Ngwerere ward 19 to pay towards garbage collection in the area, says Patriotic Front area councillor Adrian Banda.

Mr Banda said the buying of the tractor by the community valued at K180, 000 using ward funds had facilitated the reduction of the monthly garbage collection fees.

He said the action was a reality of his campaign promises and that the move would ensure that the outbreak of waterborne diseases associated with uncollected garbage such as cholera, diarrhoea and typhoid were a thing of the past.

In an interview with the Daily Nation, the civic leader urged members of the community in the ward to take advantage of the subsidised fee and pay to ensure a clean, tidy and healthy surrounding.

“I would like to urge residents of Ngwerere Ward 19 to take advantage of the subsidised garbage collection fee which has been cut from K40 to K20 following the purchase of the tractor using ward funds,

“This will ensure that our community is tidy, clean and disease free especially during this rainy season,” he said.

Mr Banda expressed happiness that the development had elated members of the community and that the tractor had started collecting garbage from door to door for those who had paid.

He said the ruling Patriotic Front was walking the talk by delivering and taking development around Zambia.

Mr Banda has implored residents to desist from the indiscriminate disposal of garbage and safeguard public property.
