Probe gay activities, Police urged

- By ANNIE ZULU

Home Affairs should institute investigations into reported meetings of gay people in Zambia's tourist capital, Livingstone, Minister of National Guidance and Religious Affairs Godfridah Sumaili has charged.

Reverend Sumaili emphasised that immorality and lawlessness should not be tolerated in a Christian nation.

The minister said Zambia is a Christian Nation, therefore gayism and lesbianism is not only seen as an immoral practice, but not permissible under the laws of the land.

Reverend Sumaili said she was saddened about the reported secret gay indaba held in Livingstone in the week that ended on November 3, 2017 as reported in the Daily Nation on Tuesday, November 7, 2017.

She condemned the holding of the purported indaba, saying it was unacceptable.

“I would like to condemn the holding of this purported indaba, barely a month, after the country observed the National Day of Prayer, Fasting and Reconciliation, which is a reaffirmation of who we are, a Christian nation,” Rev Sumaili said.

She has since urged the Ministry of Home Affairs to scale up investigations into the matter.

Reverend Sumaili emphasised that immorality and lawlessness should not be tolerated in a Christian nation.

“My Ministry, therefore, looks forward to the conclusion of investigations into the matter by the Ministry of Home Affairs to establish the facts,” she said.
