Sinda Secondary completion set for next year
GOVERNMENT will next year finish the construction of Sinda Day Secondary School in Eastern Province which was suspended due to financial constraints.
Speaking in Parliament on Thursday during question for oral answer, Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Development Ronald Chitotela, said his ministry had not been receiving funds as projected and honouring of interim payment certificate by Government.
The minister was responding to Sinda Member of Parliament Masauso Tembo who wanted to know when the construction of Sinda Day Secondary School will be completed and what caused the delay.
In response, Mr Chitotela said the delay was due to financial constraints and the project was supposed to complete in 2015.
He said Government was committed to improving learning infrastructure in Zambia because education was an integral aspect of fostering development in the teaching environment.
“If funds are available the school is expected to be fully completed and handed over to Government through Ministry of General Education before the end of 2018,” said Mr Chitotela.
Meanwhile, 10 teachers’ houses have been roofed and were nearing completion at the same school.
Mr Chitotela said the contractor working on the staff houses was already at the site and works were progressing well.
He said once the houses were finished the school would open partially and enrol Grade 8 and Grade 10 pupils for 2018.
