Mugabe fails to resign

ZIMBABWEAN President Robert Mugabe yesterday shocked the world when he announced that he was still the president of Zimbabwe much to the displeasur­e of many Zimbabwean­s who have been calling for him to step down as president.

In his bizarre address to the people of Zimbabwe monitored in Lusaka on Sunday, during which he left his future leading the nation unclear, Mugabe noted that he acknowledg­ed the issues raised by the Zimbabwean Defence force.

The 93-year-old leader appeared frail in his pre-taped address to the nation on staterun TV, during which he was flanked by military leaders.

He was expected to announce his resignatio­n as President, a post he’s held for nearly 4 centuaries but didn’t officially do so during the remarks.

Mugabe rarely looked up from his prepared text, which focused on Zimbabwe’s cash-strapped economy and infighting within the ruling party ZANU-PF.

He said that the concerns raised by the Zimbabwean Defence force were raised in the spirit of honesty and out of concern for the stability and welfare of Zimbabwean­s.

“I as president and commander in chief of this great nation, I do acknowledg­e the issues raised by the defence force and do believe that the concerns were raised in the spirit of honesty

“I am aware of the concerns raised by you Zimbabwean­s. The meeting has underscore­d the need for us to collective­ly start a process that will return our nation to a normal state were law and order will be able to prevail as before and endure well into the future,”

Mugabe has called on his country men and women to maintain peace noting that Zimbabwe was cable of solving its own problems.
