Stop divisive politics Bishop

- By CHARLES MUSONDA

NO politician will be allowed to divide Zambia because we are already a united nation, says Church of God Cathedral of Miracles Presiding Bishop Naison Nyonyo.

Bishop Nyonyo said Zambia was a truly Christian nation and President Lungu’s efforts to unite the country were visible for all to see.

“We have seen the efforts President Lungu has been making to unite the country and I want to advise that politics of division in this nation are not welcome. Zambia, as a state, has been a refuge for people from many countries for a number of years.

“We have had many people from countries like Zimbabwe, Namibia, Mozambique, South Africa, Democratic Republic of Congo, Angola and many others housed in Zambia before and this is a message to them that our country is united,” Bishop Nyonyo said.

In an interview in Lusaka yesterday, Bishop Nyonyo said only selfish politicians, whose sole motive was to enrich themselves, were practising divisive politics. “I want to assure everyone that Zambians are Christians and true believers. Just like we believe in Christ, we believe that this country cannot be divided by a few individuals. This is not a warning but it is a very straight forward talk. Our former president Dr. Kenneth Kaunda brought a slogan of One Zambia One Nation but today it is a reality.

“Our politicians must do clean politics and lobby for votes from the electorate as opposed to dividing the nation. We are not interested, whatsoever, in any politician with an agenda of dividing this nation. We are simply saying no and we condemn that in the strongest terms.

Bishop Nyonyo said as Christians, he believed Zambia was a united country and as such, appealed to both old and new politicians to ask for votes to be in office and serve the nation as opposed to dividing the nation.

“We as a church are praying for the country’s unity. Dividing the nation cannot happen and the Church is not asleep,” he said.
