ABOUT 62,276 farmers are expected to benefit from the electronic voucher (e-voucher) system in North Western Province for the 2017/2018 farming season.

North Western Province senior marketing development officer Dennis Munachusa told the Daily Nation in an interview that the farmers were expected to receive the cards which would enable them access farming inputs of their choice valued at K2, 100 from the registered Agro-dealers.

‘’I can confirm that 62,276 farmers will benefit from the e-voucher system and this means that all these farmers will entitled to get a card valued at K2, 100, he said.

He said each beneficiary will contribute K400 while government will contribute K1, 700 for the cards to be activated to enable the farmers to access the inputs from the agro-dealers of their choice.

‘’From the K1,700 that will be contributed by government, K100 will go towards weather index insurance to cover for any damage caused to the crops due to natural disasters,” he said.

He disclosed that government had put in place a policy that compels farmers to allocate 30 percent of the money in the card to purchase legumes to promote crop diversification.

He urged farmers to access the inputs from registered agro-dealers that had been captured on the Zambia agriculture integrated information management system to avoid being swindled.
