Mkushi sex party scandal shocks ZNUT
By CHITE MTONGA “WE are not aware of the sex party that took place in Mkushi and we are very shocked that four teachers were even suspended without our knowledge,” says Zambia National Union of Teachers (ZNUT) Secretary General Newman Bubala.
Mr Bubala said sexual offences were very sensitive and serious cases to the teaching profession and revelations that four teachers in Mkushi had been suspended for having a sex party with five female pupils believed to be minors were devastating.
He explained that ZNUT had not received any report in connection with the sex party which was confirmed by Mkushi District Commissioner, Luka Mwamba.
He warned that the union would institute investigations through its functionaries in the area as it was shocking that they had just learned about the incident.
He said that the Union was concerned that four of its members were disciplined by way of a suspension without engaging the union when union officials were present in the area.
“We were not informed about this matter, but we have immediately constituted investigation because we believe such serious offences would have been communicated to us. The question is who sat in that meeting where those four teachers were suspended? So we need to gather more information for us to give our official position on the matter,” he said.
The story has caused extensive debate on social media where most people are calling for investigations on the scandal as most people are of the view that the punishment given to the four teachers was too lenient for the offence committed.
