The constructors Huawei had managed to complete the construction of 84 sites adding that by the end of December,2017 all the 110 sites will be operational.

Speaking during a media tour of the 12 sites in the Eastern Province yesterday, Mr. Mambwe said the 12 sites erected in the province especially in Chipata were aimed at meeting economic activities that came with the city status of that town.

"Chipata is a new city and in there is a lot of development in this town hence we have decided to provide communication development for us to support this growth," Mr. Mambwe said.

He explained that Zamtel was committed to investing in the expansion of their network.

Earlier this year the Minister of Transport and Communications, Brian Mushimba made the symbolic first call to launch the second phase of the Communication Towers Project, paving the way for every citizen in the country to have access to a mobile phone signal.

Leading global information communications technology solutions provider Huawei Technologies Zambia where tasked to build telecommunication towers in remote areas across the country under the project, which will see Zambia develop its mobile phone coverage.

Part of this $280 million dollars project are the 110 towers which will be rolled out.
