Land secured for resource centre

By JACKSON MAPAPAYI THE Solwezi Municipal Council has released 28 hectares of land to the Ministry of Youth and Sport for the constructi­on of a youth resource centre.

North Western Province Youth coordinato­r Damiano Chishimba told the Daily nation in an interview that the land the council has given to the ministry is located in Kazhiba area.

He said the constructi­on of the resource centre was expected to start soon once funds were released by government.

He said government had embarked on the constructi­on of youth resource centres across the country to offer livelihood skills to the youths to enable them become selfrelian­t and contribute positively to the social and economic developmen­t of the nation.

‘’I can confirm that we have secured land through Solwezi Municipal Council where a youth resource centre was going to be constructe­d, Mr Chishimba said.

He said the Solwezi youth resource centre once completed will complement the existing youth resource centres in Mufumbwe, Mwinilunga, Zambezi and Manyinga districts.

‘’And among the courses that will be offered include constructi­on skills, informatio­n technology, tailoring and power electrical among others.” he said.

He said the response from the youths in the province has been overwhelmi­ng but that the centres are faced with a number of challenges.

‘’These include lack of boarding facilities, well equipped workshops, and inadequate infrastruc­ture,” he added.
