9 seriously injured in Siavonga mini bus accident
NINE members of the New Apostolic Church are battling for their lives in the Siavonga District Hospital after the vehicle they were travelling in, a Toyota Hiace minibus overturned on the Chirundu/ Siavonga Highway.
Both Siavonga District Commissioner and Hospital Authorities confirmed the development to the Daily Nation and said that among the 9 injured passengers, four are male, 3 female and 2 infants.
The Health Authorities further said of the 9 admitted, 3 are in critical condition requiring emergency treatment.
The victims who were returning from a church event in Chirundu, met their fate when the driver identified, identified asa Mr Mukwamba lost control of the vehicle which later overturned.
And Siavonga District Commissioner (NAME MISSING) who rushed to the scene of the accident expressed sadness at the accident and cautioned motorists to be extra careful to avoid road mishaps.
He assured the motorists and the travelling community that Government was aware of the bad state of the road from Chirundu junction to Siavonga CBD.
He said once the resources were available, Government will undertake to repair the road which currently posed real danger to the public and tourists.
Meanwhile, health workers at the district hospital complained over the behaviour of some people surrounding the hospital.
They complained over the habit by some people who mobbed the health institution every time there was an emergency or accident.
Yesterday as victims from the minibus accident were being attended to, a horde of onlookers descended on the hospital making it difficult for health workers to carryout their work as the Out Patient Department and wards were overwhelmed by the people some of whom took pictures and selfies with injured people in the background.
The workers called on Government to urgently fence off the hospital to bring order during emergency operations.
