LICEF increases teachers’ salaries
By CECILIA MUBAMBE LICEF School has salaries for teachers by 10 percent following the signing of a collective agreement with the Zambia National Union of Teachers (ZNUT).
Haroon Ghumra, school executive committee chairmain and Mr. Newman Bubala, ZNUT general secretary of ZNUT announced that the agreement was effective 1st January, 2018 to 31st December.
The agreement provides an upward adjustment that will comprise basic pay increase of 10%, miscellaneous allowance increase of 7.5% and housing allowance increase of 7.5%.
Mr. Ghumra said his committee is determined to work with the school Administration and staff in addressing the various challenges facing the school so that they can perform to expected standards.
He said as a way forward in providing good standards, he would like the teachers to be punctual and adopt a professional attitude and maintain positive relationships with staff as well as students and also teach students to become role models for our society.
“Teachers need to become role models for the students hence build a good character and become examples to others. Teachers no doubt play an important role after parents. Therefore, teachers need to be self-disciplined and impartial. Their character, dressing, interaction, walking, talking and chalking, all play a great role in shaping the young who will become the flag bearers of the future,” he said.
LICEF School is the only private school in Lusaka to have signed a Recognition Agreement with the Zambia National Union of Teachers (ZNUT), a few years ago.
