Every child has a right to education
EVERY child has the right to education, regardless of their status in society, says a Chingola District Education Board (DEBS) officer, under the Guidance and Counselling office Limpo Sishekanu.
Ms Sishekanu who is district Guidance and Counselling Coordinator, has embarked on improving the lives of vulnerable children in the rural of Chingola District by taking them back to school.
She said she started the charity work in 2015 and according to her, education was the best gift one could ever give to a child.
She has so far taken back over 100 vulnerable children back to school.
“Children are future leaders and education is the key to producing great future leaders of this nation, therefore every child regardless of where they are deserve to be given access to education, it is their right.
“I embarked on this journey in 2015 and despite grappling with challenges such as providing school requirements for the children, I have however managed to take back over 100 children back to school,” Ms Sishekanu said.
She has however, appealed for material support such as uniforms, books and other school requirements to go towards the welfare of the children.
“It is a difficult undertaking to take vulnerable children back to school and later on provide them with school requirements so I am appealing to all well-wishers to help with material support to go towards their welfare.
“Let's help the vulnerable children in society, let's take them to school. Shoes, clothes, uniforms or even funding towards the children's wellbeing are welcome. Together we can shape the future of these children and later on our country,"” she said
Ms Sishekanu noted that among other challenges the vulnerable children she is supporting are faced with include lack of enough food.
“For example the case of a Grade 12 pupil, aged 18 who is critically ill and needs food at a secondary school in Chingola,” she said.
She adds that the rural of Chingola District has a lot of vulnerable children who are unable to continue with education but that their dreams and future can be shaped if society puts resources together towards this charity work.
