Zanaco thump Nkwazi 3-0

Super league defending champions Zanaco increased their chances of qualifying for the 2018 CAF champions league competitio­n after humiliatin­g “High Flying” Nkwazi 3-nil in a week 36 league fixture played yesterday at Sunset Stadium in Lusaka.

Strikers Ernest Mbewe, Felix Nyaende and first half substitute Richard Kasonde scored a goal apiece for Zanaco to collect maximum three points.

Despite both teams having approached the week 36 fixture

cautiously, Zanaco had the first scoring opportunit­y but were unfortunat­e as Striker Suleiman Lokwa sent his shot over the bar five minutes into the first half.

Nkwazi survived going 1-0 down a minute before the half time as left back Bwembya Taonga sent his sublime long range shot wide. Zanaco began the second half aggressive­ly and were rewarded 61 minutes into the second half when Mbewe found the back of the net after being assisted by Augustine Mulenga.

Zanaco doubled their lead in the 69th minute when Nyaende headed in a Charles Zulu’s cross which hit the upright before he finished it off.

Kasonde made it 3-nil after beating Rueben Chisala seven minutes before the final whistle. The win pushed Zanaco to 67 points while Nkwazi remain stuck on 47 points.

Robert Chama only goal against Forest Rangers cemented Green Buffaloes stay in the top four. Buffaloes are on joint 67 points with Zanaco, separated by goal difference. In other results: Nchanga Rangers beat Mufulira Wanderers 2-1 while Power Dynamos edged Lumwana Radiants 1-0.

Lusaka Dynamos lost 1-0 to Real Nakonde while Kabwe Warriors were held to a barren draw by Napsa Stars. Demoted Konkola Blades beat Nakambala Leopards 1-0.
