Avoid social media, Judges advised
JUDGES and magistrates have been advised to avoid social media as much as possible as it would compromise their standing in society, Lusaka High Court, Judge in charge Gertrude Chawatama has warned.
“I would urge you to avoid social media as much as possible because there will be people that would want to follow everything that you do and eventually try to find a fault in you,” she said.
The judge said this when she swore in 14 subordinate 3rd class magistrate from different parts of the country.
Presiding over the swearing in ceremony at the Lusaka High Court, Judge Chawatama, urged the new magistrates to interpretate and apply the rule of law as it was in the Constitution of Zambia.
Judge Chawatama said judges played an important role in any society and urged them to administer the same law with fair dispensation of justice on everyone regardless of who they were or what they had.
“I must mention to you that from today onwards your responsibilities have increased, you are required to ensure that the rule of law is expressed because you will have different people appearing before you and you need to remember that everyone is equal regardless of what they have so you will administer the same law,” judge Chawatama said.
She said that one needed to exercise patience in the field of justice and that legal advice should not be given anyhow.
Judge Chawatama said control in the court room was important but that it should be done in a respective way.
